Electrode Care Tips

Prep your skin.

Wash and dry your forehead before each treatment. Use basic soap, not alcohol wipes or facial cleansers. Don't apply moisturizers or makeup.

Handle by the edge.

Wash your hands before applying the electrode.

Recline or lie down.

To keep the electrode in place, recline during your treatment. Don't move around.

Keep it fresh.

When you remove an electrode after treatment, replace it on the plastic backing, adhesive side down. Then, seal it in the electrode pouch.

Add water.

A few drops of tap water may gently rehydrate an electrode and help it stay usable longer.

Reviews

As a chronic migraine sufferer,

"As a chronic migraine sufferer, I’m grateful to have this device and these electrodes, but they are insanely expensive and each one doesn’t work well after two uses, even though I follow the instructions. Yet, I have no choice but to purchase more because the pain debilitates my function and there are no cheaper options. So I feel that the cost of these electrodes are an exploitative way to keep vulnerable people with already high medical costs, paying high monthly amounts."

My experience after one treatment

"My experience after one treatment made my PHN pain worse do not use this device for PHN pain unless you are willing to risk a set back. Cefaly should do more data collecting before offering it to just anyone with pain. Also support team is hard to understand, I believe they outsource their support."

"This product has been a blessing to me. It reduced a big amount of my headaches and continues to aid in ridding them while they’re happening. It doesn’t work 100 % of the time but it’s great for the most part."

The electrodes could use a

"The electrodes could use a bit of a flap on the corners that is just plastic, so fingers dont have to get on the gel and make edges less sticky but i can just keep putting folded tape down. The devices work great otherwise."

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Both standard and hypoallergenic electrodes can be reused as long as the electrode adheres well to the skin on the forehead. The number of uses varies from person to person. Standard electrodes typically provide more uses than hypoallergenic.

  • • Gel dried out, dirty, cracked, or clumping
    • Edges curl up when applying to skin
    • Doesn’t stay in place when attached to Cefaly
    • Stimulation feels different or causes discomfort

If you notice any of these, replace your electrode. Look at section 2.5 of your user manual for more information about electrode care.

  • We recommend the hypoallergenic electrodes for anyone with a known acrylate allergy, or who experiences an allergic reaction (rash) on the forehead after using standard electrodes.

Please note that the skin under the electrode may appear red or blotchy after a treatment session. This effect is normal, and is caused by increased local blood flow to the skin. Usually it disappears within 15 minutes.

If a temporary rash develops on the forehead, this can mean you have an allergy to the electrode. If this should occur, stop using Cefaly until the rash disappears, which may take a few days. The use of an anti-inflammatory cream can accelerate the disappearance of the rash. Try using hypoallergenic electrodes instead, and contact your doctor or CEFALY Technology if you have any questions.

  • First, sign into your Cefaly account (or create one).
